Melbourne Spring Fashion Week...Alice Euphemia

Last Friday my artist friend Sarah and I stumbled upon just one of the many events of Spring Fashion Week here in Melbourne. Many of which I've noticed were populated by avid Bloggers! On this night it was the launch of Dani M's new line of split necklaces inspired by love and friendship...we thought the matching cookies served on the night were a nice touch. The geometric pieces split apart to be shared with a lover or friend. "...But what is your poly-amorous?" asked Sarah.

Inked...Smith Street

I not really one to endorse getting rock-a-billy motifs engraved into your skin. But this little skull, peeping out from the shirt of a waiter, seems to sum up the current atmosphere.

Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces'...Glam Dinner Party

Monday, August 10, 2009

Recently Gertrude Contemporary Art Space held its annual Gertrude's Table Dinner, for Gallery patrons, writers and artists alike. As a roped in and voluntary staff member I got to experience first hand this event hosted by local artist Ryan Foote.

The theme of the dinner was Black, the food served was white and thus the waiters dressed to match. Guests dinned off a gold catwalk-like table, drank themselves into oblivion and barely touched their snow white dessert of marshmallows. A young magazine editor was a stand out in Martin Margiela. Apparently finding the shoes on sale for 99 Bucks. The dinner may have ignored the recession, but her style budget didn't.

Bondi Beach...Sydney

Its hard to pin point what makes-up Sydney's style. Many people are tourists, like myself, and their dress sense seems informed by another location. But every now and then someone emerges from the crowd, who's engaged with the local conversation. Such a this guy of Bondi, dressed in a aqua velvet sweater. Strange combination, but many a Sydney guy is braving this look.

When it comes to dressing in Bondi, the beach isn't the best lcoation. But during these beautiful winter days, I suggest taking a trip down Hall Street. Here cafes come book shops are worth the walk, and filled with people to draw.

The view from the Rocks...Sydney

The Harbor even in Winter is a pretty sight. It's hard not to get court up in all the snapping camera and tourist excitement. Here is a young traveller having his own, Ken Done moment with the Opera House view.
